About Light Trails

Light Trails is a duel on a grid. Two players set off towards each other, each drawing a solid line behind them. The lines never fade. Before long the arena is a maze of your own making, and somebody runs out of room.

How a match works

You cannot stop and you cannot reverse. Each player has two buttons: one turns left, the other right. The turns are relative to the direction you are travelling, as if you were driving, not to the screen.

Touch anything solid, the outer wall, your opponent's trail or your own, and you crash. The other player takes the round. If both crash at the same moment, or meet head on, nobody scores and the round is replayed. First to three wins.

Sitting and setting up

On a phone or tablet, hold the device between you. Each player's buttons are at their own end. On a computer, player one uses A and D, and player two uses the left and right arrow keys.

How to win

Claim space. The game is decided by who has more room left when the two of you are separated. Early on, head for the middle and try to wall off the larger share of the arena.

Cut across your opponent. If you can draw a line in front of them, close enough that they cannot turn away, the round is yours.

Do not hug your own trail tightly until you have to. Once you are sealed in, fill your area methodically, back and forth in neat rows, so that you waste no squares. Whoever lasts longer wins.

Remember that left and right swap when you are heading down the screen. Think of yourself as the driver.

Avoid dead ends. Before you turn into a gap, check that there is a way out of it.

For tactical play at speed, few two-player HTML5 games match it.
